Tyson Gholston Davis is an American composer and Juilliard student. He began composing at age eight and studied with Lawrence Dillon at UNCSA. In 2019, he premi ‘Delicate Tension' with the NYO-USA and Antonio Pappano. The piece was commissioned to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and was performed in Berlin, Edinburgh, and Hamburg.
Davis is a highly sought-after composer who has received over 22 commissions from leading ensembles such as The Juilliard String Quartet, Albany Symphony, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Eighth Blackbird, WQXR, New York New Music Ensemble, Metropolis Ensemble, and others.
Davis has recently finished his work Amorphous Figures (String Quartet No. 2) which premiered in April 2023. He is currently working on several commissions, including works for soprano saxophone and piano, wind quintet, and solo piano, among others, until late 2025.
